13 - St. James Goose Creek Church

15 July 1781

13 - St. James Goose Creek Church

Patriot Colonel Wade Hampton left the Goose Creek Bridge the next day and went to nearby St. James Goose Creek Church, where Sunday services were in progress with many Loyalists attending. Hampton’s men surrounded the church, captured the congregation and their horses, but paroled the whole congregation. The horses may have been returned to the parishioners or could have been retained by the Patriots. The accounts do not specify the disposition.
