07 - Wantoot Plantation

30 January 1781

07 - Wantoot Plantation

Patriot Capt. Daniel Conyers and sixteen of Brig. Gen. Francis Marion’s Brigade surprised and captured forty-six British Regulars and a large number of horses and wagons filled with salt and other stores on the south side of the Santee River at Wantoot Plantation. They destroyed what could not be taken with them, then took their prisoners safely across the Santee River. Note: Wantoot was used as a British base and supply point during the war, as were Wadboo and Keithfield.
