A shot rang out, British horses in full speed, Tarleton’s Legion charged into Lt. Col. White’s men, their backs to the Santee, the Americans faced gunfire and slashing swords from the mounted enemy. The American forces had 11 killed, 30 wounded, 67 captured, and almost all of the American horses were captured. The British had 2 killed, and freed their foragers captured earlier. White and Washington swam across the Santee and could only watch the slaughter from the other side of the river.
