03 - Miller's Bridge - Wando River

We took up our ground about nine o’clock in the evening. The next day we began to fortify at the Bridge and make a block house in order to keep post here with a few men. The British marched up to the fort but found it so strong that it was imprudent to storm it with so few men. We remained at Miller’s Bridge, finished the block house. Loyalist Lt. Anthony Allaire, noted in his diary, “Col. Tarleton surprised and took nine sloops with goods, stores, etc., and twenty pieces of cannon.”
